How to Fix Your PC or Mobile Doesn’t Support Miracast

The Miracast wireless display standard allows users to display images from one device to another. For example, users can mirror the screens of their Miracast-enabled laptops onto the screens of desktops or TVs. In this way, Miracast is very similar to a wireless HDMI cable that users can use to connect devices to project their screens.

However, some users will not see the “Miracast Supported” error message on their PC or mobile device. Consequently, Miracast mirroring is not working. Here are some possible solutions to fix the Miracast error on your PC or mobile device.

How to fix the “Your PC or mobile device does not support Miracast” error

When you try to mirror your device, you may get the error message “Your computer or mobile device does not support Miracast and therefore cannot project wirelessly.”

According to user reports, this error can occur for several reasons:

  • One of the devices involved does not support Miracast
  • Intel’s graphics hardware is disabled
  • The wireless adapter is forcibly set to 5 GHz
  • There is third-party software with a built-in VPN feature (such as Cisco AnyConnect) that breaks the Miracast connection.
  • Wi-Fi is disabled when you connect through the Intel graphics chipset.

Check if your computer is compatible with MiraCast

Before exploring other troubleshooting options, you should make sure your device supports MiraCast connectivity.

Now, there are two main components that provide Miracast connectivity: the network and graphics. In the following steps, we’ll run some tests to show if your system can support a Miracast connection. First, we’ll check the compatibility of your network adapter, and then we’ll check to see if the graphics drivers are configured to support Miracast. Here’s a quick guide on what you need to do:

  • Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box. Then type “Powershell” and press Enter to open a new Powershell window.
  • In the newly opened Powershell window, type the following command and press Enter to make sure you have the correct version of the network adapter driver:
  • Get-netadapter | Select name, ndisversion
  • If the returned NdisVersion is greater than 6.30, your computer is equipped to support Miracast from a network perspective. You can now close the Powershell window.
  • Then, to test the graphics drivers, press the Windows + R keys to re-open the “Run” dialog box. Type “dxdiag” in the “Run” field and press Enter to open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool page.
  • Once the DirectX Diagnostic Tool page opens, expand the View tab and look for the driver model at the bottom of the Driver column. If the driver model does not specify WDDM 1.3 or higher, your system is not equipped to connect Miracast.

After making sure that your computer is ready to support the Miracast connection, you can follow the methods below, which will guide you through various recovery strategies.

Make sure that Wi-Fi is enabled on both devices.

You need to make sure that your computer has Wi-Fi turned on.

Step 1: Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box. Then type ms-settings: network-wifi and click OK.

Step 2: On the Wi-Fi tab, make sure that the switch associated with Wi-Fi is enabled.

Change the wireless adapter to Auto.

Step 2: Expand the “Network Adapters” drop-down menu, right-click the wireless adapter and select “Properties”.

Step 4: Click OK and wait for the network connection to be restored.

Then restart your computer and see if you can use the Miracast feature.
